Analytical model that may be used to determine impact of maintainability (operational and resources requirements) on aircraft system design is presented; model, designated SOURCE (Simulation of Utilization, Resources, Cost, and Efficiency), is designed to accept empirical data to determine realistically interrelationships between maintainability and aircraft design characteristics; number of measures are used to describe quantitatively maintenance characteristics in terms which permit computation of operational capability, resource requirements, and support cost; these measures include aircraft break rates, recovery capability, direct MH/FH, and material (spares) demand.
