Results of small scale experimental investigation into engine inlet temperature rise and flow field caused by recirculating hot exhaust gases from various simulated V/STOL jet engine arrangements in static proximity to ground are presented; evaluation of recirculating flow field and engine inlet temperature rise caused by hot exhaust jets impinging on ground; effect of engine spacing, height, exhaust deflection angle, exhaust nozzle geometry, and wing planform are included; tests were conducted in Bell Aerosystems outdoor jet impingement test facility which provided simulated inlet and exhaust conditions typical of turbojet engines.
