In terms of emergency oxygen supply safety, three basic areas must be considered at system design selection level -- physiological requirements of passengers and/or crew, minimum mechanical operational complexity and-or fire hazard to aircraft, crew and passengers, and simplicity in ground service requirements; types of oxygen systems include l-p gaseous, h-p gaseous, l-p liquid, alkali super oxides, chlorate candles, and electrochemical generators; possible advantages, particularly safety, of solid oxygen generators over other types of supplies, in view of progress and success attained by U S Navy in development of submarine equipment are pointed out.
