Vulcanized fiber, sometimes called hard vulcanized fiber or chemically hardened fiber, is obtained by treating cotton rag paper with zinc chloride, which causes cotton fibers of paper to swell and partially gelatinize; manufacture, physical properties, workability and machinability; applications in mechanical design.
