Experimental verification of effect of sodium sulfate and alcohol on acetylation of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers by various types of aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes; increasing sodium sulfate concentration in bath decreases degree of acetylation of PVA using formaldehyde or terephthalic dialdehyde; benzaldehyde-treated fiber is more elastic than formaldehyde-treated fiber; difference in behavior of fibers to acetylating agents may be due to macromolecule crosslinking or interchain rings.
