Design objectives of two new diesel engines for John Deere- Lanz Tractor Works of Mannheim, West Germany, called for maximum interchangeability of parts and use of common manufacturing equipment for noninterchangeable parts; development of 152-cu in. 3-cyl and 202 cu in. 4-cyl engines; basic specifications; description of components, in particular, camshaft and bearings, cylinder liner and block, combustion chamber, and fuel and lubrication system; engine performance; results of tests show low fuel consumption, high torque reserve, and good cold weather starting ability.
