Review of Naval strategy and its effect on design and maintenance of propulsion machinery; major factors emerging are need for advanced design of propulsion machinery and need to design it for reliability in conjunction with planned maintenance; it is also concluded that only nuclear power could really satisfactorily enable United Kingdom to station maritime Constabulary Force permanently East of Suez. Extracts from paper before Conference on Engineering and Royal Navy, Oct 1964, Royal Naval Engineering College.
