Substantial fuel waste can be eliminated when MITSPERRY detonation equipment is used for limiting detonation by adjusting fuel mixtures; before this method can be advocated, it must be determined if significant structural damage will results; flight tests described substantiated former results, and indicated that light detonation commonly known as "trace knock," has insignificant effect on engine life.
