Flying at very high speeds results in excessive resistance, surface heating, and indeterminate character of flow at Mach numbers between 0.85 and 1.2; analysis of types of airfoils that will be needed, powers required and what must be done to overcome problems of friction and extremely high altitude heating effects; new problems of high altitude flight are ionization of air, meteoric dust, and electrification of atmosphere.
