First aluminum tank car, consisting of 8000 gal Alcoa aluminum tank mounted on conventional steel underframe and trucks, was built in 1928 at Sharon, Pa, plant of General American Transportation Corp, and used initially for shipment of glacial acetic acid by Niacet Chemical Co.
