Features of type of locomotive powered by single rotating turbine instead of two or more reciprocating engines as required by Diesel or conventional steam locomotives; good performer at starting and at low speeds, turbine locomotive excels in power and tractive effort at high speed, with large fuel saving; early trials give promise that geared turbine will make possible more tractive effort from locomotive of given boiler capacity.
