Experiments were conducted with various combinations and designs, using reflectorizing materials (Silver and Yellow Scotchlite) and Federal Yellow enamel, all in accordance with State of Illinois Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, to determine most effective sign background; best results for both day and night visibility were obtained by dividing sign area into three horizontal panels; problems of spacing; note on cleaning of signs.
