British consultant attributes European lead to economic pressures due to more severe weather and denser traffic; description of British Auto-Land system, which had over 10,000 fully automatic landings before end of 1962 and is about to become operative, and of new Lear-Siegler system, which has been recording successful landings in France at rate of over 6 per day since mid-1962; for VTOL guidance. Royal Aircraft Establishment (which also developed Auto-Land) has proposed using 2 interferometer antenna pairs to determine aircraft position in conjunction with identification beacon carried by aircraft; improvements in passive reflectors and magnetrons.
