Comparisons of weights, performance and operating costs between typical Mach 2 aircraft and typical present-day subsonic jet are given to show basic economics; some of factors in design that lead to particular shape of Concord Mach 2.2 slender-delta type of approach, such as stability and balance, passenger stowage, fuel stowage and volume utilization, area distribution and wave drag, induced drag, lift-drag ratio, choice of engine size, cross-section shape, etc; work done by Supersonic Transport Aircraft Committee (STAC); problems of timetabling and airport noise.
