Optimization study showed that medium pressure ratio turbojet would be best compromise for transatlantic Mach 2.2 civil aircraft; BAC is responsible for intake and nacelle installation, Bristol Siddeley is designing and developing Olympus 593 engine, and SNECMA is responsible for jet pipe, reheat system, primary and secondary nozzles, silencer and thrust reverser; power plants are disposed in 2 twin underwing nacelles positioned outboard of main undercarriage at mid-semi span; arrangements bring intake into region where it is sheltered under wing, which acts as flow-straightener and minimizes effect on intake performance of variation in angle of attack; intake control and engine control system.
