Review of experimental program originated by Jet Propulsion Laboratory (Pasadena, Calif) and Eppley Laboratory (Newport, RI), for improving knowledge of extraterrestrial solar fluxes; NASA jet high-altitude aircraft and USAF/NASA rocket research vehicle were employed as measurement platforms; instrumentation developed included series of multichannel filter radiometers and associated signal conditioning components; results of five measurement series to altitudes of 12 to 15 km, supplemented by one determination at about 80 km, yield new value of total integral wavelength flux or solar constant of radiation of 1.952 cal cm-2 min-1.
