Critical review of current trends shows that there is tendency to underestimate biochemical problems of spaceflight; as long as present research trends continue, space travel will be restricted to `elite,' of highly-trained, young adults; examples selected from field of gastroenterology show how, with advent of commercial spaceflight, problems may result from present failure to explore effect of space travel upon diseases which affect man.
