Some of psychological principles, developed and used to improve reliability of man for serving as functional component within manned space systems, are formulated; psychological requirements and Project Mercury Candidate Evaluation Program which led to conclusion that most important consideration in evaluating candidate was psychological stability; training and procedures used; 23 acceleration training principles are outlined.
