Results of analytical investigations to determine stability and steering effectiveness during high speed slide-out are presented for spacecraft equipped with main gear skids and nose wheel; it is shown that steering control during slideout is necessary, and that sufficient steering capability may be developed for landing on 150 ft wide runway; method of nose wheel steering is employed which eliminates possibility of ground looping due to oversteering and provides for advantageous use of aerodynamic side force in steering.
