Data from two functionally simulated, critical spacecraft subsystems and one experiment apparatus were sent through model telemetry system to computer having characteristics similar to spacecraft computers; malfunction situations could be inserted into subsystem hardware; through software design, major checkout functions of status monitoring, malfunction detection, and fault isolation were incorporated into system which included computer-driven alphanumeric readout device; experiment verified design approach and provided tool for evaluating man-machine interaction in subsequent revisions of systems.
