Techniques and equipment used at NASA/Ames Research Center for manned aerospace simulation to produce research results applicable to design and development of aerospace vehicles; how these same techniques and equipment can be applied to research applicable to other types of manned vehicles is discussed; why and how simulators are useful in research is explained; equipment required to provide useful simulation system is divided into four main areas which include computing systems, motion systems, visual systems, and audio systems; requirements and specifications of these various systems and how they add to realism of simulator and validity of research results are shown.
