Three vessels, California, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, used as troopships during war, reconverted at East Coast Shipyards for Moore-McCormack Lines; re-named Uruguay, Brazil, and Argentina, respectively; beam 80 ft, draft 34 ft 4 in.; Uruguay is 601 ft long and Brazil and Argentina, 613 ft; ships designed for turbo-electric drive; fitted with General Electric turbines, generators and main propulsion motors; two turbines develop 17,000 hp; speed 18 1/2 knots.
