Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad is experimenting with use of rubber fabric pads at ends of turntables and on rim bearing beams to absorb impact shocks of locomotives when passing on and off tables; it is anticipated that severe wear and batter occurring to rail ends, end ties, and carriages, and bearing plates from hard service conditions at these points, will be considerably lessened and service life of tables extended.
