Hedge can safely stop automobile, moving at 50 mi per hr, in distance of about 75 ft on path of travel; at approach angle of 20°, hedge 40 ft wide would be needed to stop vehicle; other considerations indicate that plantings in medians as crash barriers are likely to be fully and economically useful only under special conditions.
