Analysis of operations of F8U Crusader aircraft and Regulus I pilotless (recoverable) missile furnishes strong evidence for manned vehicle as more versatile, reliable system requiring much shorter development time; results of simulation study in which pilots flew X-10 and XSM-64 missiles from control console of analog computer or from cockpit showed that 25% of successful flights were saved at critical control stage by pilot action; advantages of incorporating man are shown.
