Paper deals with fully refrigerated ships of about 13,000 tons gross, having insulated capacities of about 400,000 to over 600,000 cu ft, operated by British owners; some have 70 individual compartments, for carrying different cargoes from frozen goods at down to or below 0 F up to chilled cargoes such as cheese at around 40 F and in some cases bananas at 52 F; all operate with secondary refrigerant circulation using calcium chloride brine in closed system; most complex have seven different brine temperatures; inspection and control of plant is traced; reference is made to approach used on Continent.
