Recommended propulsion system for 900-lb Lunar Reconnaissance Vehicle is comprised of solid rocket motor and pressurized positive expulsion liquid bi-propellant system feeding 4 radiation-cooled attitude engines in 1-lb thrust class; vernier engines provide midcourse correction on translunar trajectory, second stage impulse of retro-maneuver, and impulse for lunar orbit maneuvers; attitude control engines are used to orient vehicle to desired inertial position during translunar coast period, orient vehicle for midcourse, retro, and lunar maneuver, and impart spin rate, to vehicle prior to retro-maneuver.
