Using measured intensity and duration of solar flare proton events during years 1956-61, NASA Manned Spacecraft Center analyzed Apollo Command Module shielding to insure that astronauts would receive specified emergency dose on less than one mission in thousand; Module's structure gives this protection and protons must have minimum energy of 36 Mev to penetrate Module; features of onboard radiation monitoring equipment; ground observation system for monitoring solar proton hazard consisting of 7 optical and 3 radio telescopes located at Apollo S-band tracking stations around world and 3 forward-scatter radio links in North America.
