Simplest of atmospheric re-entry techniques uses symmetrical (nonlifting) vehicle re-entering along ballistic flight path, final descent being made with parachute or paraglider; disadvantages of high lift re-entry; concept of low-lift configurations ranging from blunt, slightly flattened cones to flat-rounded lenticular and arrowhead shapes; phases of re-entry and requirements for this maneuver; width of entry corridor can be seen to depend on vehicle's design limits, velocity at entry, and type of entry maneuver employed; how control and range coupled with acceptable deceleration and heating levels can be achieved.
