Hovercraft is defined as surface vehicle attempting to extend use of land surface vehicles, to achieve operation over soft surfaces such as water, and over unprepared tracks such as rough sea; major power components are body aerodynamic drag, suspension system aerodynamic drag, surface contact lift, body aerodynamic lift, cushion air supply and momentum drag, induced wave drag, and surface contact drag; paper is concerned with effect of rough water on cushion air supply and momentum drag, and surface-contact drag. Abstract of paper presented at ACV Symposium, Stockholm, Nov 20 1963. (Supp to Flight)
