Report is based upon predicted growth of traffic published in MoT White Paper Proposals for Fixed Channel Link, Cmnd. 2137, Sept 1963; assumption made is that existing forms of cross-channel transport would continue to carry same level of traffic as they would be carrying at end of decade, and traffic growth beyond this level could be catered for by hovercraft service; service required to do this and meet peak August daily traffic of 13,500 cars would require fleet size of 16 SR.N4-type hovercraft; potential of hovercraft, principal features, internal arrangement, and versatility of SR.N4; hoverport; cost estimates.
