Studies made by Federal Aviation Agency to establish effective means for protecting engines from ingestion; experience shows that during takeoffs and landings there were more bird ingestions than during cruising portion of flights; bird encounters reported on various aircraft and damage occurred; bird flocks densities and altitude; ingestion effects on engines and significance of impact resistance, materials, rotor to stator clearance, air passage size, combustion stability, and air inlet design; safety standards.
