Method of analysis, originally developed for uniform and equally spaced stiffeners (see Engineering Index 1963 p 503) is extended to shells with nonuniformly spaced stiffeners; it is shown that equally spaced rings divide conical shell into "sub-shells" of equal local buckling strength; unequal spacings, which result in "sub-shells" of equal local buckling strength, are logical approach to optimum structure; analysis is presented and numerical calculations are discussed.
