Complexities of correlating data for model and ship, particularly with reference to viscous forces are noted; J.W.Hoyt and A.G.Fabula (1964) showed that dilute aqueous solutions of certain long chain molecule polymers had turbulent skin friction coefficients 70% less than value for water under same conditions; by using suitable concentration of polymer it appears possible to make both wave making and frictional resistance coefficients same for model and ship; experiments described were carried out in Naval Architecture Dept Towing Tank at University of Newcastle, using Polyox WSR 301 poly (ethylene oxide).
