Japanese shipbuilding industry was extremely active during 1964, and 190 ships aggregating 4,856,000 gross tons are now under construction; this corresponds to 2 yr work, on average, for industry; these figures are discussed with reference to ships built for export, world shipbuilding, etc; information is given on six new Japanese shipyards for buildingmammoth vessels, of which Yokohama No. 2 yard of IshikawajimaHarima Heavy Industries Co was completed in 1964; integrations within shipbuilding industry are also noted.
