Results obtained from measurements of propeller bossing vibration carried out by British Ship Research Assn on 16 twinscrew ships and one quadruple-screw ship; in general, data indicate that each pair of bossing may have several critical frequencies, and this is discussed; approximate method is derived for estimating critical frequency of symmetrical bossing vibration based upon simple cantilever analogy; derivation of correction factor to be used in frequency estimates for bossings having tapered shaft brackets, and values of entrained mass for bossings deduced from results for eight ships are included.
