Problems affecting cardiovascular system are examined and some methods for protecting astronauts during and after long space missions against orthostatic hypotension are suggested; methods intended to prevent cardiovascular deconditioning include pressure cuffs, exercises, artificial gravity, and valsalva maneuver; methods to prevent hypotension from occurring in presence of cardiovascular deconditioning on return to Earth gravity or during spacecraft velocity changes involve drugs and antigravity suits.
