Velocity requirements associated with various flight paths to Mars and Venus and resulting propulsion and re-entry weights are combined and varied with other missions system weights which are function of mission goals, trip time and environmental protection; system requirements to determine total mass requirements on Earth orbit are -- propulsion systems for Earth orbit departure, Earth entry systems for different missions, life support systems, navigation and control systems, reconnaissance and scientific instrumentation for gathering data during course of missions, space power supply systems and vehicle design concepts.
