Weight of fuel in subsonic passenger carrying aircraft at take-off represents 45% of aircraft's all up weight and proportion increases to 55% in supersonic transport aircraft; therefore, precise and effective fuel management is most important if trim of aircraft and operational economics is not to be disturbed during intercontinental flight; fuel management system developed for Concorde and fuel pumps used; locations of fuel tanks in prototype Concorde aircraft 001 and 002 are shown in sketch; examples of electrically and hydraulically powered rear trim transfer fuel pump employed.
