Outstanding capabilities of hydrofoil craft are their achievement of high speed with relatively low expenditure of power, and their superior sea-keeping ability compared with other ships of equivalent size; reference made to efforts by German Army and Navy during World War II and von Schertel concept of surface piercing, area stabilized foils; efforts made by U S Navy, Bureau of Ships, and data and principal characteristics given for hydrofoils PC(H)-1, AGE(H), LCVP (H), and LVHX-1; use of hydrofoils in antisubmarine operations, landing craft and mine sweeping.
