Timing and direction of thrust of space rocket during takeoff from earth discussed from point of view of "variation of constants " (or variation of parameters); thrust period should be ended as early as possible, and assuming thrust tangential to trajectory, direction of tangent is almost immaterial for great distances; for interplanetary flights special property of 2-body motion is shown to simplify estimation of minimum velocity necessary to carry rocket to objective.
