Aeronautical safety research and development program, carried out by Federal Aviation Agency to explore manner in which aircraft are damaged in survivable accidents by accurate measurements of crash loads; full scale crash safety tests of transport aircraft were conducted to study take-off and landing accidents wherein speeds and loads do not exceed survivable limits; wings and fuselage were instrumented to measure loads, accelerations, and fuel pressures; secondary experiments were carried out on board; data will be used to improve impact protection and to reduce possibility of fire after impact; results of first test.
