Survey of recent developments shows that where Category 2 guidance facilities exist, automatic control to touchdown can be implemented now, under limited environmental conditions, with sufficient reliability to insure pilot acceptance; auto landing system including SP-50 autopilot and flare computer, SPA-10 radar altimeter, and automatic throttle control is being evaluated for operation to touchdown in clear weather; system will provide base on which airlines can build capability for operation when there are 100-ft ceilings and visibility distances of 1300 ft.
