Problem of determining "power-on" increment of lift of practical propeller-wing combination in flight, is described, and broken down into four parts; solution is found for each part, being fully dealt with in appendices as follows -- simple propeller theories; downwash produced by propeller at incidence; direct lift from wing; mean upwash ahead of finite wing; synthesis of various parts produces general solution to problem.
