To safeguard structure from catastrophic collapse due to fatigue, corrosion and accident, fail-safe concept was adopted for HS.748 short-haul jet transport; fuselage was conceived as one unit from front pressure bulkhead to rear tailplane bulkhead and includes wing center-section; examples of typical rib designs employed in structure are shown; application of corrosion prevention and simplified inspection and repair; safety features incorporated.
