Paper concerns itself with identification of three problem areas related to practical flight operation of supersonic transport; they are sonic boom control, arrival or estimated time of arrival (ETA) control, and fuel management techniques; these operational problems are related to arrival and departure phases of typical SST flight; requirements for, and mechanization of, airborne concept called central electronic management system (CEMS), which performs major functions of airborne sonic boom monitoring and limiting in conjunction with flight path control, navigation and fuel management, and traffic control integration.
