Paper considers design status (as of Dec 1964) of L-2000 with respect to features assuring safe, reliable, and comfortable travel under Mach-3 cruising flight conditions; system design to cope with speed-induced thermal environment of 2000 mph transport requires effective thermal management of all major heat sources and sinks; selection of heat sinks for L-2000 and vehicle characteristics that make this choice feasible; effects of flight profile (cruising altitude, in particular), airplane configuration, and significant modes of heat transfer both external and internal; subsystem concepts providing desired internal environment for occupants and equipment.
