Principal performance feature of regenerative turboprop engine is large reduction in fuel consumption, particularly during part power operation; paper examines mission capability improvement and tradeoffs possible if regenerative turboprop engines are used in patrol aircraft in lieu of nonregenerative turboprop engines; weapon systems having missions with engine cruise horse- power requirements consistent with that available from current regenerator programs comprise C-130 Hercules, E-2 Hawkeye, P-3 Orion, etc; regenerative engine characteristics; mission capabilities with constant takeoff weight.
