Since 1959 KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, together with Dutch National Aero- and Astronautical Research Institute, has been engaged in development of prototype airborne digital recorders; experiments with recorder were directed at evaluating applicability of flight recorders for performance purposes; recorder, installed in one of KLM's DC-8 aircraft, logged over 1000 flying hours in 1962 and 1963; paper describes recorder and sequence of tests performed; regarding data reduction and analysis, outline is given on accuracy and repeatability, aircraft operation analysis, and engine analysis; future use.
