Results of test program investigating influence of mean stress on fatigue propagation in two clad Al alloys (2024-T3 and 7075-T6), used in aircraft structures; crack rate in 7075 specimens was three to four times as large as in 2024 specimens; existing crack propagation theories were checked by means of present results; theory of Paris gives some promise for further development.
